ABOUT ABOUT

On February 10, 2017, the world lost a seminal leader and humanitarian, Albert Boscov. At Goggleworks Center for the Arts, we also lost our co-founder and visionary. While we are left with an enormous void, his vision is no more clouded by the fog of his passing. Rather, we are overwhelmed with the realization that we need to further the values he embodied: building a vibrant community through creative leadership, embracing education and the arts, and improving welfare for the most underserved among us.

Many of our visitors and supporters have asked what GoggleWorks will do to remember his life, leadership, and legacy. This Tribute Event is being held to remember his life and celebrate his arts advocacy and charitable work, a particular gift to Berks County and beyond.  This event will have a cocktail hour from 6 to 7pm, with a catered meal to follow.

Awardees include: Dr. Khalid Mumin, Education Leadership; Pablo Tejada, Community Leadership; Cindy Boscov, Volunteer Leadership; and John Ernesto, Arts Leadership.  The event will feature speakers and video presentations focused on Albert Boscov. Other programs include live artist demonstrations featuring Craig Vandall Stevens, Maggie Gallen Ellen, Mitnick, Lily & Alan Cernak, and Kris Jackson; musical performances by the Berks Ballet Theatre and Jarrett & Lawrence Zeng; book signing by author Kay Haring, sister of Keith Haring; Tim Lefens of GoggleWorks’ new A.R.T. program for individuals with the most severe physical challenges; auctioneer Dick Henry; open bar provided by Hauser Estate Winery and Sly Fox Brewing Co; dinner by Boscov’s Catering; and desserts from Sweet Street Desserts.

It isn't enough to simply say what Albert Boscov gave to so many. We must also remember how. He was a man of charm, wit, gumption, and humor. His personality, sagacity and kindness were a bridge that connected people and groups far and wide. The memory of his dynamism frames the mission of GoggleWorks by reminding us that we must continue to enrich lives, not only by encouraging creative expression, but by connecting others with the joy of community and service.
